Menopause discrimination
The topic of menopause discrimination is gaining attention, and for employers, understanding how this fits into existing discrimination laws is important.
The case of Lynskey v Direct Line Insurance Services Ltd is highly informative in this context. JCHR’s HR team at myHRdept look at the case, which resulted in a £64K award, and looks at what employers can learn from it.
Menopause won’t always trigger a ‘disability’ as far as the Equality Act defines it. Our HR team’s article looks at the Direct Line case, when an employment tribunal did regard the employee’s symptoms as being sufficient to warrant being classed as a disability, and also looks at the other protected characteristics in play.
